Most Haunted has finally come to an end after what seems like an eternity.
On the 25th of June this year (2010), Yvette Fielding released a statement saying that she would be stepping down as the presenter of the popular ghost hunting TV show, Most Haunted. However Yvette did not mention anything about the future of the Most Haunted show itself or anything about her husband and the shows producer, Karl Beattie.
Back on the 7th February, a rumour started to circulate that Most Haunted maybe moving away from it’s home on Living TV to Channel Five after an article in the Daily Star entitled ‘Channel Hop Star To Move The Ghoul-Posts‘.
If Channel Five boss, Richard Woolfe who is said to be ‘desperate to put the ghost-hunting satellite favourite on mainstream telly‘, does manage to acquire Most Haunted, the question begs: who will host it? Answers on a post card folks
, or failing that, come and speculate who it could be in our Ghost Hunting Forums. Woolfe has a long history with Most Haunted as he was the man who brought us the show on Living TV in the first place, when he was controller at Living TV.
Most Haunted No Longer On Living TV
By the 10th of September, things were set to change as Living TV no longer want Most Haunted in their schedule and have axed the show. We do not know why Living TV have dropped the popular show, maybe they feel that Most haunted just wont be Most Haunted without Yvette at the helm. But this is pure speculation on our behalf.
Not The End Of Live UK Ghost Hunting TV Shows
While at the same time of letting the world know that Most Haunted is no more, Living TV also announced the shows replacement, named Paranormal Investigation: Live. I must say, this new shows premise does sound rather intriguing. This new investigation team is split into two camps: one team of spiritualists and the other is science based. Both of these ghost hunting teams are amateur groups from around the UK and are thrust into the lime light when the TV show goes live. For me, as a ghost researcher, this is interesting because we get the chance to observe how other ghost hunting groups operate and conduct their investigations.
I suspect that the average ghost hunting TV show viewer may get a little bored because they will be seeing for the first time that ghost hunting is not all about having stones thrown every 30 seconds or the theatrics that Most Haunted was famous for.
However, I will reserve judgment until after I have seen both Paranormal Investigation: Live shows that are due to go out live on Living TV (sky channel 112, Sky HD 224, Virgin Media 109 and Virgin Media HD 110) on the 30th and 31st October at 9pm.
According to the Paranormal Investigation: Live website, the teams will be using a Ouija board, other scrying methods and also the controversial ‘Franks Box’. If the Franks Box is new to you, it’s simplest form it’s a radio that continuously scans back and forth through the broadcast radio frequencies randomly picking out words & music. Like most new and wonderful devices that make their way into the ghost hunting community, in my personal opinion, the Franks Box is worthless and is nothing more than a big waste of valuable electronics components.
Anyway, back to the topic of Most Haunted’s new replacement show, Paranormal Investigation: Live.
Aside from conducting their own investigation, of which the location is said to be secret until the show starts, the show is also asking the viewers to send in their own evidence of ghosts to the show as well as their opinions of how the ghost hunting teams are conducting their investigations. If the viewers evidence of ghosts are deemed worthy, it might be featured live on the show.
Aside from the Franks Box and the viewers evidence, the Paranormal Investigation Live team will also be conducting EVP and trigger object experiments. However, from what I can make out from their website, it looks as if they won’t be doing any ground breaking research into ghosts anymore than Most Haunted ever did.
But, like I said earlier, I will reserve my final judgment on Paranormal Investigation : Live until after the end of the show on October 31st. Lets hope that it is a fair and balanced show that does not spread false so-called facts like Most Haunted has done for many years.
